Father, thank you for being a teacher for us. May we sit at your feet this day and learn from you. Open your Scriptures to us that our hearts will burn for you. Thank you.
Turn to Luke 24:13-35
- What were the two discussing on the road to Emmaus?
- Why do you think they were kept from recognizing Jesus (v. 16)
- What events do they describe to the "stranger" (Jesus)?
- How does the "stranger" (Jesus) respond to their description of the events? What does he teach them?
- Now it was getting late in the day and they planned to stay- what do they do with their new friend? What happens next?
- What does the "stranger" do that causes them to recognize him as Jesus?
- How do they describe their experience on the road in verse 32?
- What is their testimony to the other disciples?
- What are two significant practices/disciplines in this passage where the disciples encountered Jesus that can be moments for us to encounter Jesus also?
- What would it take for you to encounter Christ in those two disciplines?
Spend some time talking with the Living God about what's going on. Ask him to reveal himself to you through his word.
Later.

1) They were talking about everything that had happened.
2) I think they kept from recognizing Jesus because they were too busy talking and Jesus looked like anyother person.
3) They describe the cruicifiaction to him and the reserection.
4) He tells them that they are foolish and slow at heart to believe. Did Christ have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?
5) He teaches them about Moses and all the Prophets and what was said in the scripture concerning himself.
6) They had him stay with them.
7) Then they had dinner and he broke the bread and gave thanks. With that, their eyes opened and they recongnized him. He then disappeared from their sight.
8) He broke the bread and gave thanks.
9) They ask eachother if their hearts were not burning within them while they talked about him on the road and he opened the scripture to them.
10) Their testimony was that it is true the Lord has risen and appeared to Simon.
11) One practice is sharing or talking about his word with others. Another is to recongnize Jesus into your life.
12) I would read more of his word and dicuss it more with others.

1. They were talking about "all of the things that had happened" which was the crucifixion of Jesus.
2. I think they were kept from recognizing him because Jesus didn't want them to go crazy on him for talking to somebody who was dead just the day before. That is probably why they realized it right when Jesus left.
3. They described the how Jesus of Nazareth was crucified and how there were stories of him rising to life that morning.
4. Jesus responded by telling them about how the Messiah had to suffer and then rise to glory. Then he told them interpretations of himself from the scriptures.
5. They asked him to stay with them since it was getting dark. They take him with them when they eat and Jesus blessed the food. Then Jesus left and the two men realized who he was.
6. The "stranger" blessed the food and they recognized him.
7. They said that their hearts were burning while he was there.
8. They told the other disciples about what happened on the road and how he made himself known to them by breaking the bread and blessing the food.
9. One is talking about religious experiences with other people and the next is learning how to recognize Jesus and what he is doing.
10. It would take me learning a lot more about Christ and his doings.
